This is the first of my top ten champ blogs, each will focus on one of the different positions: Top, Jungle, Mid, Bot and Support.
Of the five positions you can play support is probably my favourite. You might not get the flashy kills of the other positions but helping secure kills for your carry or keeping them alive can be just as thrilling.
My top two supports:
1) Sona
This musical temptress floats along strumming her instrument and supporting her team with musical prowess.
Sona takes my number one spot for support due to her great versatility. Need a heal, zing your healed. Need to speed out of trouble, whoosh you're out of trouble. Need a boost of damage, bash, you're boosted.
I love playing Sona with a good ADC, letting them farm while providing them with the backup they need. Waiting for just the right time to release a Crescendo to stun a group for your carry pick off.
She has some fun skins that fit her really well, her Arcade and Pentakill ones in particular.
Using Sona to turn the tide of a losing team fight are what make her so much fun. Her heals are so good that you'll quickly be back in battle without having to leave your lane.
For high level play I would pick this support over the others. While Jana has great disengage and Soraka has good zoning, Sona brings more options for any occasion.
2) Soraka
This banana slinging ambulance has finally made a few ranked plays as people realise her potential.
Soraka was the first support I played and made me realise just how fun it can be to rack up assists and heal (or as I call it green) your team-mates. She is one of the best greeners in the games but she can do more than that.
While her heals come at the expense of her health her Q lets her get it back or zone champs. Her E also provides good zoning and that silence and stun are really useful. While it doesn't seem like she has any escapes she can drop her Q and E as she runs away. Besides you should be playing her at a safe distance and keep wards up so you don’t get surprised.
Her ult is great as it can green the whole team and clever use of it can turn the tide of a team fight even if you aren't in the thick of it.
Her passive speed buff to get to team-mates low on health is where she gets her ambulance nickname and can be away of escaping as well.
If you can keep this squishy healer alive for as long as possible the opposing team are going to hate how much greening you can do. Staying in lane for longer is always great especially when supporting champs with no sustain. Stock up on your rations and green, green, green away.
